Full Metal Jacket

I know this is a hard film to watch ( I've only watched it all the way through once) but I do find Vincent's scenes compelling, if thats the right word? There is just something about Leonard that keeps me in front of the screen....and I don't think it's just because I want to protect him.

I can't even bear to screencap 'FMJ' because I'd have to watch it again. I haven't seen it since it was in the cinema, but I STILL vividly remember what happens to him. The interview section is also quite cruel and shows all the bits I never wanted to see again in the first place....Good thing Vincent is present for that section, looking sparkingly glorious!!!

Vincent was Brilliant in this, but it's just too painful to watch.

I'm glad to know that I am not the only one that feels this way about FMJ.

Having watched it when it was originally released, though the name D'Onofrio meant nothing to me then, I did not want to watch it again, a few years ago, when I became a follower of his work. It is a great film, but painful to watch, especially for those of us who were in our late teens and early twenties during the Viet Nam war.

I finally broke down and bought the BluRay version a few weeks so that I could see VDO's interview and commentary. VDO's comments are very detailed and intense.

Watching the first part with the commentaries turn on helps. You can close your eyes and concentrate on his voice.

Stunning performance. Genius.

I actually showed it to some 15-year-old pupils last year to illustrate the consequences of severe bullying. They loved it - and not just for the swearing!

i think, kubrick's intention was to show the irrationality of war. and he did it well.

I'm with Diane. I cringe inside just seeing FMJ much less screen capping it. Vincent or not that first time watching it was all I can endure.
